RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) was directed by the Rawalpindi Commissioner Muhammad Mehmood on Monday to prepare a feasibility report for the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) along the Ring Road project.
He stated that the Ring Road is just another thoroughfare, but a complex project, which will help resolve the traffic & economic problems of the city by boosting industry and creating jobs. These viewpoints were presented over a meeting on the Ring Road project which was presided over by the Rawalpindi Commissioner. The meeting was also attended by Miss Nazia Parveen Sudhan, RDA Director Finance & Planning, Mr. Muhammad Abdullah, Ring Road Project Director, RDA officers and other relevant personnel.
The commissioner stated that they were already consulting with Islamabad and Rawalpindi chambers of commerce and industries regarding the Special Economic Zones. He also added that the cooperation with the business community of both the cities will continue all the way through the process of developing the feasibility report.
Mr. Mehmood said that survey of the land acquired for the project has been completed by the revenue department and the process for demarcation and identification of the land is underway.
The chief commissioner ordered the revenue authorities to accelerate the process. He further added that the draft for an agreement with the National Highway Authority to build the road and link it to overall China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is under review. Mr. Mehmood discussed that by connecting the Ring Road project to CPEC, its importance will increase manifold.
Lastly, he said that the plans to purchase land in and around the loops of interchanges of the ring road project are in the pipeline, stating that the government can use it for commercial purposes to increase their revenue.
